Fairtrade Fortnight 2022

[ Posted on February 10, 2022 ]

Fairtrade Fortnight 2022 will run from 21th February to 6th March 2022.

Fairtrade is an alternative approach to conventional trade and based on a partnership between  some of the most disadvantaged farmers and workers in the developing world and the people who buy their products. When farmers and workers can sell on Fairtrade terms, it provides them with a better opportunity to improve their lives and plan for their future.

Carrick-on-Shannon is a Fairtrade Town since 2011

“Fairtrade offers us a powerful way to reduce poverty through our everyday shopping”

The Annual Fairtrade Fortnight will be celebrated this year as usual with Covid restrictions still in place. So, instead of our usual street parade in Carrick-on-Shannon, we have to use online communication to link with County Council, traders, schools, Fairtrade Ireland and every loyal follower in the town.

Despite the restrictions during this fortnight we will not be stopped from joining the hundreds of individuals, companies and groups across Ireland who share stories of the people who grow our food and are often exploited and underpaid. We need to make more noise in 2022 about the power of Fairtrade to help small-scale farmers, the environment and the climate in The Global South.
